Zelma would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call—a sort of an offer that she couldn’t refuse—for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family, her husband William (Red) Welty, son Timothy Welty, and daughters, Christal Welty Peters and Katrina Welty, parents, brothers and sisters and friends that she has not seen in a long time.
Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, and singing to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious—and you never gain an ounce. She left behind her daughters, Deborah Rogers and her husband, Randy; and Nelda Welty Johnson. Her son, William Welty, Jr., and his wife, Lisa, along with her daughter-in-law, Janet Welty, and son-in-law Gil Peters; Sister Betty Smiley and sister-in-law, Myriam Bourg; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
We want to let her know that she did a great job, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and service, and that we wish her a safe journey. We will remember her smile, the twinkle in her eyes, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family and friends. She worked very hard all her life and made a difference in the lives of many. She actively participated in assisting the White Rose Women's Center, providing compassionate support to those encountering unplanned pregnancies. Throughout her years a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph’s and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church,
Zelma's faith illuminated her life. She was a Lay Carmelite Nun, dedicating herself to prayer and spirituality, which underscored her profound devotion. She embraced life with a joyful heart and a positive outlook, always looking on the bright side of things, inspiring those around her to do the same. We invite you to join us and celebrate together. Her Life Celebration Mass will take place on October 6, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2006 Nall St, in Port Neches, TX 77651. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Port Arthur, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the White Rose Women’s Center on 4313 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75205.
