William E. Murty, Jr. , a devoted family man and a stalwart in his community, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Vidor, Texas, at the age of 91. Born on January 19, 1934, in Beaumont, Texas, William's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love for sports and family.
William dedicated 33 years of his life as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Gulf Oil, a career where his skills and commitment were dearly valued. After retiring, he continued to nurture his entrepreneurial spirit by owning a successful lawn business for ten years, where he showcased his strong work ethic and attention to detail.
A proud veteran of the Army, William held a deep sense of patriotism that he carried throughout his life. His involvement in sports profoundly impacted the lives of many young athletes. He devoted countless hours coaching Little League Baseball at Port Arthur Little League, as well as middle school baseball and football for St. Catherine Catholic School. Sports were not merely a pastime for him; they were a way to connect with the youth, instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.
William was also a cherished parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where his faith guided him and was a source of strength in his daily life. His community knew him as a kind-hearted man with a passion for fostering relationships, and he engaged with others with warmth and a smile that could light up any gathering.
In his personal life, William took immense pride in his family. He is survived by his loving son, Keith Murty, and his wife, Melo Dee, of Nederland; his devoted and loving daughter, Stacy Murty-Hadel, of Nederland; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. William's joy in life was often found in the company of his family, especially cheering enthusiastically at all of his grandchildren's sporting events, demonstrating his unwavering support and love.
William is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Neil Murty, whose presence he cherished throughout their years together. He was also preceded by his parents, Bill and Ruth Murty, two sons, Cris Murty and O'Neil Murty, and his brother, Gene Murty.
As we remember William E. Murty, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, service, and the joy of family. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the memories shared by all who knew him.
