W.C. (Dub) Lindsey

April 29, 1929 — February 22, 2010

W.C. (Dub) Lindsey, a life-long resident of Port Neches, Texas was born on April 29, 1929 to Maude and W.C. Lindsey, Sr. and passed away on February 22, 2010. Educated in the Port Neches school system, he graduated in 1946 after having been elected by his fellow classmates as president of his senior class. Thereafter, he enrolled at Lamar University, then Lamar Junior College, where he pursued a course in pre-law studies. He also studied pre-law at East Texas Baptist College and Baylor University. While in undergraduate school at these institutions, Lindsey financed his education by working part-time, and on various occasions full-time at Goodrich-Gulf and the Texas Company in Port Neches. While still financing his education, Dub began law school at Baylor University in 1949, but with the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, he enlisted as a Private in the United States Air Force. While in the service, Lindsey worked principally in the area of internal security for the Strategic Air Command. In 1953, he was honorably discharged after having attained the rank of First Lieutenant, and then returned to Baylor University Law School to complete his work toward an L.L.B. Degree. He graduated in 1954, and same year, he became a member of the State Bar of Texas. Desiring to return to Jefferson County to work and to live, he and Harry Wright went into private practice in Port Neches until he began his service as assistant district attorney for Jefferson County in 1955. After two years as an assistant felony prosecutor, he returned to private practice, forming a partnership with Earl Black in Port Arthur. Lindsey was elected district attorney of Jefferson County in 1962, and served two terms before returning to private practice in Port Arthur. He remained in private practice until his retirement in 2008. Lindsey was involved in a number of professional and civic organizations, including an over fifty year membership in the State Bar of Texas and the Jefferson County Bar Association. He has served the Jefferson County Bar Association in a number of positions over the years including membership on the Board of Directors, and in various other positions including Secretary, Vice-President and President. His active involvement in the Port Neches Rotary Club led to his service as president in 1980, and to the honor of being named Rotarian of the Year in 1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Neches and has served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. A Mason since 1955, he held membership in the Port Neches Masonic Lodge # 1163. He was also once active in the Port Neches Lion's Club and while working at Goodrich-Gulf in Port Neches, was a member of the CIO-OCAW. His life was characterized by the deep connection he felt to his community, and in his own words, defined community as, "that relationship we have to our nation, our neighbors, our church, and our family." He believed that the world is full of possibilities, problems are here to be solved, and that character can be built by facing adversity with faith, perseverance and a positive attitude. Many benefited from his wisdom, compassion and commitment. He is survived by his sister, Ella Mae Fondren of Port Neches, his children, Debbie Blackmon, and her husband John of Hockley, Texas, Karen Lindsey, of Bellville, Texas, Billy Lindsey, and his wife Caran of Beaumont Texas, and his grandchildren, including Amanda Flocke and Rachel Hadcock and her husband, Matt of Houston, Texas, and Garrett and Clay Lindsey of Beaumont, Texas.
