Vivian Berniece Gibson

Vivian Berniece Thomas Gibson died on March 14, 2009, at a nursing home in Beaumont, Texas. She was 91 years old. Vivian was born to Otis and Vallie Thomas on February 14, 1918, in Pineville, Louisiana. She graduated from Hall Summit H.S. in 1934 and married L.V. Gibson in 1938. They moved to NederlandPort Neches in 1947. After her children were older she graduated from Lamar State College of Technology and begin teaching in the Nederland ISD. She completed twenty years in the classroom and retired in 1983. Most of the twenty years in the classroom were at Highland Park Elementary teaching fourth grade students.Vivian was active in church. Beginning when she went with her father when he preached and continuing when she took her children. Much of her time was devoted to Training Union at First Baptist Church in Nederland working in the primary departments.Vivian was preceeded in death by: her parents three brothers: Jullian, O.W., Jr., and Joe Thomas two sisters: Ruth Hanna, and Elaine Mundis her husband L.V. and a son Lewis, Jr. She is survived by: two sisters: Viola Thomas and Judy Nichols both of Nederland, Texas four brothers: John Thomas of Coushatta, Louisiana, Charles Thomas of Nederland, L.G. Thomas of Minden, Louisiana, and Bob Thomas of Nederland a son Richard Gibson and his wife Kathy of Nederland a daughter Mary Virginia Killingsworth and her husband Roger of Auburn, Alabama ten grandchildren plus spouses: Rick and KayLynn Gibson of Nederland, Melissa and Lloyd Clayton of Dallas, Texas, Wade and Joan Killingsworth of Birmingham, Alabama, Kim and Jay Deville of Beaumont, Carol and Chris Hardy of Birmingham, Sara and James Thornton of Birmingham, Erin Killingsworth of Birmingham, David and Kit Killingsworth of Auburn, Joel Killingsworth and Scott Killingsworth both of Auburn and twentyseven greatgrandchildren. Also, by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and former students.A visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, March 20th, at Heritage on Avenue H in Nederland. Services will be held on Saturday, March 21st, also at Heritage.
