Vernon "Bubba" Andrews, age 90, passed away on Monday, December 7th at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. He was born in Orange, Texas on December 1, 1919 to Joe and Alice (McKinley) Andrews. "Bubba" moved to Port Arthur, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and married Jean Carruth. He worked and retired from DuPont after thirty- four years of service. He and his wife, Jean, enjoyed their retirement and moved to Orange two years ago to be close to their daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Earl Geis. "Bubba" and his wife Jean (Carruth) Andrews were married sixty-four years. They have had a wonderful retirement together and were able to enjoy their camp in Burkeville, travel, and enjoy their family to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jerri Hawsey, and his great-grandson, Jake Thomas Geis. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean; his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Earl Geis of Orange; three grandsons and their wives, Cort and Chrys Geis of Austin, Brandon and Jaimie Geis of Missouri City, Texas and Joey and Joslynn Geis of Beaumont. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Clayton, Carson and Riley Geis. "Bubba" also had the fortune of having a "special son" Ken Whitlow and his wife, Becky and three "special adopted" granddaughters, Michelle, Taylor and Kali Whitlow. "Bubba" has been a member of the United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur for over 80 years. He was a member of the Cullen Hamilton Bible Sunday school class and worked with the church's "meals on wheels" program for many years. He was recently a member of the First Methodist Church of Orange. He was a past president of the Port Arthur Shrine Club and was a 32nd degree Mason. "Bubba" enjoyed life to the fullest and knew what it means to live the good life. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Reverend Tom Stephenson, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Orange officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Cort Geis, Brandon Geis, Joey Geis, Kenny Whitlow, Art Geis, Jerry Adams, Jim Bozarth, Buddy Jordan, Wayne Carruth, E.C. Carruth and Joe Hawsey. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Sharpless, Gene Broussard, Paul Fisher and Roy Meyers. Friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, or the charity of their choice.
