Selma Darder

Selma was born on 10-4-1927 in Port Arthur Texas and passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Harbor Hospice in Jasper Texas at the age of 96.

 

Selma was a longtime resident of Port Acres Tx and recently of Lufkin Texas & Colmesneil Texas.  She was a homemaker and loved her family unconditionally.  She loved good food and especially her morning coffee.

 

She enjoyed traveling to see family all over the US, and the many trips to Paradise Point at Toledo Bend to fish for crappie and her famous drag and snag method of catching a bass.  She was a lifelong member of St Teresa Little Flower Church in Port Acres.

 

Selma is survived by her Son, William E Young Jr and companion, Lynn Dietz, of Colmesneil Texas, Daughter, Denise Otero of Lufkin, Tx, Son Vince Darder (Twyla) of Colmesneil, Texas, Son, Courtney Darder and her special Niece, Patty Sue Smith whose bond was as close as that of her children, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Grandchildren:  Lisa Breaux (Dwayne), Debbie Hazelbaker (Scott), Patrick Darder (Andrea), Gregory Gatlin (Michelle), & Garrett Darder (fiancé, Kennedy).  Great Grandchildren;  Alex Breaux, Lauren Brady, Kaylee Breaux, Casey May, Brandon Hazelbaker, Emily Hazelbaker, Hayden Darder, Kaydence Darder.  Great Great Grandchildren; Alyssa Breaux and Olivia Breaux.

 

Selma was preceded in Death by her Husband, L. J. Darder, Daughter Kathryn Collins, Daughter-in-law Patricia Young, Parents Max Purghan and Lula Hemmenway Purghan, Brother Max Purghan, Sisters, Wynona Peveto and Norma White.

 

A gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa the Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Acres with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be Garrett Darder, Michael Darder, Freddy Purghan, Fritz Purgahn, Scott Hazelbaker and Charles Crain. Serving as an Honorary Pallbearer will be Phillip Purgahn. 

The Family would like to thank Debbie Davidson for being a huge support and caring for Selma like family.  Words cannot express how much you meant to Selma and to us.  Thank you also to Harbor Hospice for your wonderful care.
