Monica Arias, a beloved matriarch and devoted soul, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Port Arthur, Texas. Born on May 4, 1940, in La Esperanzas, Coahila, Mexico, she lived a life marked by steadfast faith, vibrant spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
For four decades, Monica served as a housekeeper at Christus St. Mary, where her commitment and diligent work left an indelible mark. Her professional life was a testament to diligence and humility, reflecting the same qualities that defined her character. Known for her candor and fiery nature, she was never one to mince words—a true firecracker whose presence was felt by all who knew her.
Monica’s personality was a rich tapestry woven with devotion and joy. A devout woman, her faith permeated every aspect of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. She was the very life of any gathering, delighting in dancing and sharing moments over Margaritas. Her laughter and warmth brought a special light to family celebrations and community events alike. She cherished flowers, a passion that added beauty and tranquility to her surroundings.
A consummate family woman, Monica’s love for her family was profound and unyielding. She was the loving wife of Raul Arias Ramirez, her partner of 45 years, who stood faithfully beside her through life’s many seasons. She was a proud mother to her daughters, Maria J. Blanco and her husband, James H. Blanco, and Yolanda Bailey and her husband, Raymond. Her legacy flourishes through her five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each a living testament to her nurturing spirit. Additionally, she shared a cherished bond with her sister, Carmela Hernandez.
Her heart held memories of those who preceded her, her parents, Juan Jose Perez and Jovita Rojas, whose spirits she carried with her always. She also mourned the loss of her grandson, Raymond H. Bailey, and siblings, Concepcion “Tita” Gilchriest, Elvira Vaquera, and Antero Perez, along with several other siblings, whose memories remain cherished.
Monica lived by her favorite phrase, "Si Dios Quiere," embodying hope, resilience, and trust in God’s plan. She was always generous with advice, guiding her family with wisdom earned through her experiences. Her love for shopping for shoes and designer perfumes was well known among family and friends, a delightful detail that expressed her vivacious personality.
The community and family will gather to honor Monica Arias’ memory with a visitation on April 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by her funeral service at 10:00 a.m., both held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home located at 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627. A graveside service will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
In remembrance of Monica, we hold close the image of a strong, loving woman—devout, outspoken, and full of life—who danced through her days with grace and passion.
