It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of S. D. Strickland, who departed this life on September 4, 2025, in Orange, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on July 23, 1938, he embodied the spirit of a dedicated family man and a committed community member throughout his life as well as a faithful member of The Church of God in Port Arthur.
S. D. had a distinguished career as a Supervisor at Unical, where he was known for his exceptional work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand to colleagues. Beyond his professional life, he was a beloved husband, Daddy D, Paw Paw, and brother, whose kindness and love had a profound impact on those around him.
He cherished the beauty of the outdoors, spending his leisure time gardening and cultivating both vegetables and flowers that not only nourished his family but also brought joy into their lives, particularly through the beautiful blooms he frequently gifted to his beloved wife, Jeannene. His love for nature extended beyond gardening; S. D. was an avid hunter and fisherman, relishing moments spent in the tranquility of the great outdoors.
A true family man, S. D. was known for his deep affection for his wife and children. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeannene Strickland, his step-daughter, Kimbra Bowie Stone, and her fiancé, Randy Bertrand and step-son, Jerry Strickland and wife, Erica. He was the cherished step-grandfather of seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He leaves behind his sister, Yvonne Davis, who shared countless memories with him.
S. D. was preceded in death by his loving parents, Samuel and Monica Strickland, as well as his brother, Ray Strickland, and sister, Maxine Goad. His legacy of love, devotion, and hard work will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.
Visitation will be held September 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th St, Groves, Texas 77619. A Funeral Service will follow on September 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM.
S. D. Strickland's life was a testament to the values of family and community. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones and all who were touched by his compassionate spirit.
