ibRose Pearl Sonnier Stephens, 93, of Port Neches, TX, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009 peacefully at her home with her four children and other family members by her side.Born in Elton, LA on November 2, 1915, Rose was the daughter of the late Julian and Alice Sonnier. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vernon quotStevequot Stephens. She and Steve loved their home, family and friends, and their many travels. Rose is survived by her four children: Barbara Thibodeaux, Coleman Stephens and his wife Cathy, all of Spring, TX Irene Cartlidge of Port Arthur, TX and Carolyn Bourg of Groves, TX. Rose39s beloved grandchildren include: Angela Davelos, Stephanie Norris, Ronald Norris, Jr. deceased, Marie Benton, Tonya Coats, Judith McKinney, Frank Cartlidge, Jr., Gennis Hauck, Christi Neslage, and Yvonne Smith. Rose was the proud grandmother of eighteen greatgrandchildren and four greatgreatgrandchildren.Rose was loved by many friends, most of whom she considered family including: Fran Hudgins, Brenda Payne, Lynn Smotherman, Doris Vaiani, Agnes Landry, and Lucina Dugas. Agnes Landry and Lucina Dugas are serving as honorary pallbearers. She has many surviving relatives throughout Texas and Louisiana. In her last days Rose was lovingly cared for by Myra Cook and Judy Davis.Rose was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. She was an active member of St. Elizabeth39s parish in Port Neches. Rose could be found every Sunday sitting in the front pew of the church, which is where she met her precious friend, Helen Quibedeaux, who recently passed. Rose loved to sew and was a great Cajun cook.A gathering of family and friends for a Christian Vigil lead by Father Benny Patillo will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Heritage Funeral Home located at 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX and visitation will continue from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth39s Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m. located at 2006 Nall, Port Neches, TX, Father Benny Patillo, Celebrant.
