Robert "Bob" David Thompson

Robert "Bob" David Thompson, a man of quiet dignity and heartfelt humor, passed away on May 17, 2026, in Groves, Texas. Born on August 13, 1940, in Portland, Maine, Bob’s early years laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication, creativity, and service.

Bob was a proud veteran who served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard, a chapter of his life that he regarded with great pride. Following his military service, he devoted his working years as a skilled machinist in the turbine and weapon manufacturing industry, where his love for machinery and woodworking found full expression. Those who knew Bob well will remember his fondness for tinkering and building, a passion that reflected the depth of his ingenuity and patience. He spent endless hours in his workshop.

He was a man of many interests. His fascination with trains and remote-control airplanes brought him joy and a sense of youthful wonder throughout his life. One of his most fond memories was a train trip through the Alaskan wilderness. Bob’s affection for the ocean was profound; the sea’s vast expanse was a source of peace and endless fascination. A man of few words, he carried a quietly quirky sense of humor that endeared him to friends and family alike.

Above all, Bob doted on his wife, Sherilyn Thompson, to whom he was married for 24 cherished years. Their bond was the heart of his life, a testament to his steadfast devotion and love. Together, they built a blended family rich with warmth and support. Bob was also a loving stepfather to Holly Page and her husband, Morey; Richard Bryant and his wife, Rhonda; Randall Bryant; Roy Bryant and his wife, Loreane; as well as a stepdaughter-in-law, Menchu Bryant. He was a proud patriarch to nineteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren, whose lives he enriched immeasurably.

Bob’s family ties extended lovingly to his nephews—Kerry Thompson, Randy Thompson, and David Thompson—and his niece, Diane Thompson Maines.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Percy and Ruth Thompson; his stepson, Ronald Bryant; and his siblings, Lester Thompson, Trudy Thompson, and George Thompson. These losses marked chapters in a life gracefully lived with resilience and love.

In his final days, Robert “Bob” David Thompson left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him. His quiet strength, combined with an unwavering dedication to family, country, and craft, will be remembered with deep respect and affection. Those who shared in Bob’s journey will continue to cherish the enduring memories of a man who loved to travel, whose heart belonged to Sherilyn, and who lived fully in the gentle tinkering of life’s machines.

His family takes comfort in knowing he came to know the Lord in his last days and they will all be joined in Heaven one day.

Although I didn’t know you very well, Bob, I always enjoyed whatever opportunities I had. I loved your humor and your kindness, your sometimes point-blank comments. You fit perfectly into the Bryant Clan! High, greatest Joey, however, is the fact that I will see you again – – in heaven!
