Eventually Gene and his family settled in Vermillion OH where he started a home mission church. As the church grew he built a church for his congregation.

Gene was a Jack of All Trades and a Master of None. He put his whole heart into every job he held. In his youth he was a bagger at Weingarten grocery Store. He also built houses with Uncle L.C. Guidroz. He was a carpenter, he delivered Lays potato chips, he was an insulator, a security guard and even a janitor. But his favorite job was mowing grass, owning a thriving business. He loved all his customers and they loved him. He also loved his enemies even closer.

Gene was a prankster and a joker all his life. He loved putting smiles on people’s faces and getting a laugh.

He was a dedicated fan of the Tennessee Volunteers athletics, especially softball. He loved watching all sports but enjoyed Softball And little league baseball the most. He spent many hours talking about sports with his nephew Terry.
