Richard Martinez, a cherished member of the Nederland community, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 26, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, Richard was a man whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Throughout his life, Richard distinguished himself through his successful janitorial cleaning service, which he expertly managed for 30 years. Known for his personable nature, Richard was a true people person who connected effortlessly with those around him, always wearing a smile and often breaking into song, a reflection of his joyful spirit.
In addition to his professional achievements, Richard proudly served his country in the Army, a testament to his commitment and bravery. His love for life extended beyond his career; he enjoyed golfing occasionally, an activity he relished as another opportunity to spread joy and camaraderie.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Virginia "Vicky" T. Martinez, and his stepdaughter, Cynthia Soria and her husband, Carlo Perez. He took great pride in his family, which includes his cherished nieces and nephews: Stacey Martinez (Gale), Dara Fry (Roger), Val Martinez (Lora), Jason Martinez (Michael), Remi Bryan (Rob), and Brandi Ernst (Mark). He was also the proud grandfather of Luis Carlo and Ricardo Damian. Richard is further survived by his devoted brothers, Roy Martinez and Jesse Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Valente and Amelia Martinez, as well as his sisters-in-law, Ramona Martinez and Fran Martinez.
Richard’s proudest accomplishment was his ability to make everyone feel special, a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to resonate in the lives of all whom he touched.
