Ray Alston, 92, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Cascades at Senior Rehabilitation in Port Arthur where he resided for seventeen years. Ray was born January 12, 1932, in DeQuincy, Louisiana to the late Mamie and Matt Alston.
Ray had a multitude of hobbies and interests that brought immense joy to his life. He was renowned for incredible storytelling skills that captivated everyone who listened. In addition to sharing stories, Ray found solace in enjoying a beer now and then while engaging in a friendly game of Chutes & Ladders. One of his favorite pastimes was mowing the lawn and tending to the yard, finding peace in the simplicity of maintaining his outdoor space.
Throughout his time in DeQuincy, Louisiana, Ray developed strong relationships with the community members. His visits to the Feed Store were always filled with laughter and camaraderie as he shared tales and soaked up the company of others. Ray's favorite meal was barbecue, a dish that never failed to put a smile on his face.
Ray will be deeply missed by those who preceded him in death: his parents Mamie and Matt Alston, sister Sybil Arens, brother James Alston. Their memories will be cherished alongside Ray's legacy.
In honoring Ray's life and memory are his surviving nieces and nephews: Patty Glaze of Nederland, Bill Arens of Port Arthur, John Arens of Port Arthur, Bobby Arens and wife Kathy of Port Neches, and a host of great nieces and great nephews. These individuals continue to hold Ray close to their hearts as they navigate this difficult time.
As we reflect on the life of Ray Alston, let us remember him for his warm spirit, love for storytelling, and dedication to those he held dear. May he rest in peace knowing he has left behind a legacy filled with cherished memories and heartfelt connections that will endure for years to come.
At this time there will be no services scheduled for Mr. Alston.
Cremation services are under the direction of Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland.
