Port Arthur

Oscar M. "Bud" (Honey) Joffrion, Jr., affectionately known as Bud, left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and community. With immense sadness and an unexpected turn of events, Bud passed away suddenly on February 10, 2024, in his hometown of Port Arthur, Texas.

Born on September 7, 1953, in Port Arthur to Nellie Beatrice (Ryman) Joffrion and Oscar Marion Joffrion, Sr., Bud grew up surrounded by love and strong family values. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where he discovered his passion for learning and nurturing relationships with others. Graduating with the Class of 1973, Bud's thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at the Texas A&M Engineering Industrial Fire Academy in College Station. His dedication and hard work during this time allowed him to acquire valuable certifications and qualifications that he would later bring back to his community.

For an impressive 35 years, Bud poured his heart into his professional career in the Golden Triangle petrochemical industry. Through his unwavering commitment to excellence and relentless work ethic, he earned a well-deserved retirement from ARCO/Quantum/Equistar/Lyondell.

Bud was known for something much more profound – his ability to capture hearts through humor and storytelling. A masterful storyteller, he effortlessly transported others into the worlds he painted with words. This talent earned him admiration from all who had the pleasure of listening to him.

One quality that stood out about Bud was his unwavering generosity and spirit. He embraced unconditional love and radiated strength from within. His compassion extended not only to his cherished family but also to countless others fortunate enough to be touched by his kindness and patience. Bud genuinely believed in bringing joy to others' lives and lent his time to the Hospitality Center in Port Arthur, where he made a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Outside of work and volunteering, Bud's heart belonged to his beloved family. For 46 years, he shared a beautiful journey alongside his loving wife Jule Joffrion of Port Arthur, Texas. Their bond embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unbreakable love that transcended time. Bud was an incredible father to his adoring children: Shelby Joffrion of Charleston, South Carolina; Amanda Joffrion Moors and her husband Dan of Charleston, South Carolina; and Ben Joffrion and his wife Noreen of Poulsbo, Washington. His beloved grandchildren, Caroline Moors and Guy Moors, were a constant source of joy in his life. Bud's heart overflowed with paternal love for each one of them.

In addition to his immediate family, Bud leaves behind his sister, Joan Williams and her husband Louis as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. As they mourn this heartbreaking loss together, they find solace in the memories they shared and the everlasting bond that united them.

As we remember Bud's life, we cannot overlook his deep spirituality and immense love for the natural world. He found solace in connecting with nature as an avid lifelong sportsman. These passions fueled his spirit and enhanced his appreciation for the beauty that surrounded him daily.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Port Arthur from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A Mass honoring Bud's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas. Rite of Committal will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.

Oscar M. "Bud" (Honey) Joffrion, Jr. will forever be remembered for his gentle heart, boundless love, and generosity that knew no bounds. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

His departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him. Donations may be made, in Bud’s memory, to the Hospitality Center in Port Arthur.
