Ollie E. Baker

Ollie Evans Story Baker, age 97, was born December 25, 1928 in Sardis, Winn Parish, Louisiana to Geneva Brian Evans and George Washington Evans. Early Sunday Morning, August 30, 2026, she walked into the arms of Jesus free from all care with a new body rejoicing in Heaven. She was thirteenth in the line of fifteen children. When she was ten the family moved to Montgomery, Louisiana where she attended school and was the only one in her family to finish high school. After graduation she moved to Clarks to work as an operator in the telephone office there. There she met Thomas Harold Story and they married on March 15, 1947. In 1948 they moved to Port Arthur, Texas seeking work at the local refineries. Harold went to work for Gulf refinery as an electrician. They moved to "the Groves" in 1950. Together they raised a family of two sons and two daughters. They were married 22 years until Harold passed away in 1969.

Ollie continued to make a home for her children who graduated from PNG. In February 1978 she met Samuel Henry Baker and after a short courtship were married on April 29,1978. They became a blended family of seven children, three sons and four daughters. Upon Sam's retirement from Texaco they moved to Dam B, Town Bluff where they enjoyed country living, fishing, and hunting for twenty years. Sam passed away in February 2004 just a few months shy of their 26th anniversary. Ollie returned to Groves in 2006 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Grace (Friendship) Baptist church until she became home bound. She was a church pianist for many churches and revivals from the time she was a teenager and well into their retirement. She loved the Lord and raised her children to know and love the Lord. She loved music and playing the piano, reading Amish and mystery books, and was an excellent seamstress.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and doing little things for her grandchildren who called her Maw.

Ollie is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her first husband, Thomas Harold Story; son, Dennis Earl Story, and daughter, Vicki Lynn Story; and her second husband, Samuel Henry Baker. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Walter Granger; son and daughter-in-law, Micki and JoJo Story; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Lew Surrat, Phyllis and Carroll Salles; stepson, Roger Baker, adopted daughter and friend, Linda Condrey. Grandchildren Stacie Granger, Walter Granger Ill and wife, Angela; Sarah Martin and husband Paul; Krystal Kerr, Carly Surratt, Krissy Stark, Dillon Coleman. Great-grandchildren, Walter Granger IV (Vivian), Grace Merino (Javier), Ann Granger (fiancé Manuel Andino), Heidi Martin, Camden Kerr Sapp, Gavin Curtice; great great-grandchildren Walter V, Alexandria, Quinn, Hollyn, Karter, Hadleigh, Rocker.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September5, 2026 at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas with a service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Groves Public Library in Groves, Texas for large print books. Ollie's favorites were Amish and mysteries.
