Myrna Summerlin Connelly, born on May 30, 1939, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Owen Cobb and Guyneth Young Summerlin. She passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, care, and compassion.
Myrna dedicated her professional life to the nursing field as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with Texas Home Health, where she served many with kindness and expertise. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her professional duties; she was truly devoted to her family and her many cats throughout the years, finding joy and comfort in their companionship.
A proud graduate of the Thomas Jefferson Class of 1958, Myrna cherished her education and held a lifelong appreciation for learning. Her vibrant personality shone through her active involvement in various organizations, including being a member of the First United Methodist Church of Port Neches, the Port Neches Red Hats, and the Port Arthur Christian Women's Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting pictures and gardening, two pursuits that brought her immense joy.
Myrna was known for her warm heart and passionate spirit, taking pride in her cooking, and relishing every moment spent with family. Her travels enriched her life experiences, as she collected memories and stories that would stay with her forever.
She is survived by her two beloved sisters, Marie Hester of Nederland, and Nancy Cowart of Beaumont. Her cherished nieces, Candice Binur Franklin and her husband Ron of Whitney, Texas, and Lisa Horton and her husband Billy of Nederland, along with her adored great nieces—Lauren Horton, Haley Binur, Lexi Solorzano, and Lacy Horton—and her great nephew, Jacob Binur, will carry her memory forward. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 46 years, John A. Connelly, Jr., her son, John "Johnny" A. Connelly, III, nephew, Monte Cowart, and her beloved cats.
On January 4, 2025, family and friends are invited to gather at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches to honor Myrna’s life during a visitation starting at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, both held at 2001 Nall St, Port Neches, TX 77651. Myrna will be placed in her final resting place at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Myrna Summerlin Connelly will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her nurturing spirit, unwavering love for family, and dedication to making the world around her a better place.
