Mary C. Rasa Smiley, 67, of Labelle, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas with her loving family at her side.
Mary was born on February 14, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas to Carmen Guarnere Rasa and James Edward Rasa, Sr. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who took care of her family and took on the role as the family matriarch. Mary graduated from Port Neches Groves High School in 1974 and was a member of the Catholic faith who prayed her Rosary daily with Sister Angelica on TV. Her family describes Mary as a very loving and caring person; was the HEART of the family; never met a stranger; remembered every ones birthday and anniversaries, always sending cards with a “special note attached”. Mary collected bottles, especially Coca-Cola bottles and even had a Coke machine. She also loved gardening and taking care of her flowers that she dearly loved. Mary was a frequent visitor of Hobby Lobby and was there so often that she even wore a name tag. She was a special lady!! She will be missed but not forgotten.
Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, David Smiley of Labelle; children, Kristi Bonin and her husband Layne of LaBelle and Brent Smiley and his wife Jennifer of Nederland; siblings, James Edward Rasa, Jr. and his wife Karen of Groves, Cynthia Hebert and her husband A.J. of Lumberton, Virgil “Gene” Rasa and his wife Connie of Sour Lake, Sammy Rasa and his wife Rhonda of Brookeland, Texas, Debbie Wueller and her husband Chuck of Groves, Denise Taylor and her husband Wade of Port Neches and Ronnie Rasa and his wife Michelle of Beaumont; grandchildren, Seth Bonin, Landon Bonin, Kennon Vasseur and Malana Vasseur; numerous nieces and nephews and other family who she adored and they loved adored her as well.
A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with a gathering of family and friends to follow from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Port Neches. A Chapel Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Robby Rasa, Lawton Baxter, Kennon Vasseur, Jeremy Hebert, Josh Wueller and Aaron Taylor. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Seth Bonin and Landon Bonin.
