Lanny Ray Bennett, 78, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories that will live on for generations.
Born on August 12, 1947, in Beaumont, Texas, Lanny grew up proud to be a Nederland Bulldog. While still in high school, he met the love of his life, Donna Miller. Their love story began early, and they married while still students. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1965, beginning a lifelong journey built on devotion to family, hard work, and service to others.
Shortly after graduation, Lanny enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he began his career at Texaco in Port Neches, later Motiva, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2009.
He and Donna made their home in Nederland, where together they raised their five children and built a life centered around family, faith, and community. Lanny was a longtime member of St. Charles Catholic Church, serving as a CYO sponsor and an ACTS brother. His faith guided the way he lived, with humility, generosity, and compassion for everyone he met.
Lanny had a deep love for sports and sharing that passion with others. He volunteered for Mid-County Senior Babe Ruth for many years, always eager to help coach, support, or simply cheer from the sidelines. He never met a stranger. Whether it was a firm handshake, a warm hug, a bit of advice, or one of his well-timed jokes or stories, he had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued.
Above all, Lanny was devoted to his family. Being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother brought him his greatest joy. His proudest accomplishments were rooted in the love he held for his family. He will be remembered not only for his kindness, faith, and support, but also for the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Donna Bennett; his children Stephanie Hiltz (Mike), Christi Richard (Brent), Kevin Bennett (Paige), and Chad Bennett (Trisha); his many grandchildren, Logan Rogers (Saryn), Kennedy Wersig (Aaron), Landon Hiltz (Sarah), Karter Hiltz, Layken Baggs (Josh), Kanton Richard (Ricki), Jensen Foster (Yancey), Dade Hebert (Gracen), Victoria Taylor (Jerry), Kace Hebert, Keegan Hebert, Kade Bennett (Haleigh), Brody Bennett (Katie), Jude Bennett, Reis Bennett, Madyn Bennett, and Demi Bennett; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Bennett and Raelynn Rogers, Collier and Colson Wersig, Saylor and Finley Woolls, Riggins and Palmer Richard, Hudsyn, Haidyn, and Hank Foster, Blayke and Brooks Bennett, and Liam Hebert-Brandin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Bennett; his son, Lanny Ray Bennett Jr.; his daughter, Angie Bennett Hebert; his brother, Ronnie Bennett; and his sister, Lynell Gallier.
All services will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland, Texas. A rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, followed by a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by entombment at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
