Kenneth Ray Sistrunk, a devoted family man and skilled professional, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Brookeland, Texas. Born on February 7, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas, Kenneth lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for those closest to him.
Kenneth’s journey began in the humble surroundings of Port Arthur, where he was raised by his parents, Walker and Versie Sistrunk. Though they have passed before him, their legacy endured through him. He was also preceded in death by his beloved sister, Gaynel Smith, and her husband, Maurice, whose memories were treasured dearly.
A man of many talents, Kenneth proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. After his military service, he applied his industrious spirit to several careers, notably as a lab technician, an emergency fire responder, and a professional painter—a craft in which he took immense pride. His expertise and dedication to house painting stood as one of his proudest accomplishments, reflecting both his skill and commitment to quality.
Kenneth’s passions extended beyond his work. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he found joy and camaraderie in following the team he loved, a pastime he shared enthusiastically with family and friends alike.
Central to Kenneth’s life was his profound love for his family. He is survived by his cherished wife, Virginia Sistrunk, of Brookeland, who stood by his side in their life together. Also surviving him is his first wife, Patricia Sistrunk, who remains a significant part of his story.
Kenneth was a proud father to five children: sons, James Samuel Sistrunk and his wife, Janfra, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Christopher Flowers and his wife, Jennifer, of Mauriceville; daughters, Gayla Renee Havard and her husband, Mike, of Newton, Joy Elizabeth Sistrunk of Brookeland, and Samantha Gorham and her husband, Kevin, of Norfolk, Virginia. His nurturing spirit extended to his grandchildren—Ethan Sistrunk, Morgan Sistrunk, Emmerson Rodriguez, Skyla Sistrunk, and Michael Sistrunk—who knew him as a steadfast source of love and support.
Additionally, Kenneth’s familial bonds embraced his nephews, Kirk Smith and Kent Smith, who shared in the warmth of his character and kindness.
Kenneth Ray Sistrunk’s life was defined by service—both to his nation and to his loved ones—by dedication to his craft, and by an enduring love for his family. His memory will be cherished by those who knew him, a testament to a man who lived with integrity and a generous heart. His legacy remains firmly rooted in the lives he touched across Texas and beyond.
