Juan Leija Gonzalez, born on March 12, 1942, in Piedras Negras, Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a dedicated coal miner in Mexico prior to expanding his roots in the United States, where he built a life filled with love and devotion to his family.
Throughout his life, Juan exhibited a warm and engaging personality. He was known for his cherished stories, often shared with family during gatherings. His love for cinema was evident; he particularly adored watching old movies, including his all-time favorite, "Cantinflas." Furthermore, Juan had a keen interest in history, always making time to stay informed on current events and enjoy leisurely moments of rest.
Juan's legacy is defined by the love he bestowed upon his family, which he doted on with unwavering affection. He was a proud father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather, celebrating 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria De Leija. Together, they raised three children: daughters Lorena Trejo and her husband, Miguel of Port Arthur, and Lilia Leija of Nederland, along with their son, Leonardo Leija, and his wife, Silvia of Port Arthur. His familial pride extended to his grandchildren, Elyur, Issaq, Karla, Valerie, Kaylee, Rachel, Victoria, and Madison, as well as his great-grandchild, Alullah.
A man of deep faith, Juan held strong Christian values that guided him throughout his life. His devotion to his beliefs was a significant part of who he was, and it instilled in his family the importance of faith and love.
He is survived by his loving family, including his brother, Jose Leija and his wife, Jovita in Mexico. Juan will be profoundly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Domingo Leija and Ines Gonzalez, as well as his brother, Ramiro Leija and sisters, Dora Elia Leija and Maria Leija. Their memories live on through the stories he shared and the lives he touched.
A visitation will take place on May 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM, both held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas, 77627.
Juan Leija Gonzalez leaves behind a rich legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
