John Anthony Merchant, affectionately known as "Jacky," was born on June 17, 1954, in Port Arthur, Texas. He passed away on November 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. He spent his life as a proud member of IBEW Local #479 for 19 years, a testament to his commitment and work ethic.
Jacky had an innate passion for working outdoors, where he found joy in nature and the simplicity of the great outdoors. He loved working out in the yard, tending to his plants and creating a sanctuary for family and friends alike. His personality shone brightly, reflecting his love for family and the positive spirit he brought to every endeavor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rina Merchant of Orange; his daughters, Hailee Merchant and her fiancé, Stephen Castillo of Orange, and Victoria Frasier and her husband, Daren of Groves. Jacky was also the proud grandfather of Antonia Merchant, Mia Kendrick, Stephen Castillo, Cody Kendrick, Dominic Merchant, Ezra Castillo, Leia Castillo, Milana Castillo, Sawyer Frasier, and Wrigley Castillo, who will forever hold dear the memories they created together.
John is also remembered by his sister, Jill McConnell of Boston, Massachusetts, along with his niece, Lauren McConnell, and nephew, Christopher McConnell, both of Boston, Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Merchant, and his son, Tony Merchant, who remains in the hearts of those who loved him.
Services to honor John Anthony Merchant will take place on November 21, 2025, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home,5601 39th St, Groves, Texas. The day will begin with a Rosary at 4:00 PM, followed by a visitation at 4:30 PM. A Funeral Service will be held the next day, November 22, 2025, commencing at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at Memory Gardens in Nederland, Texas.
John Anthony Merchant's memory will continue to live on through the love of his family and the friends he touched throughout his life. He will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered in the hearts of those privileged to have known him.
