James Edward Swain, Sr., aged 83, of Port Neches, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at Bonne Vie Nursing Home in Port Arthur. Born on July 8, 1942, in Roanoke, Virginia, James led a life characterized by his warmth, kindness, and a deep commitment to his family and friends.
James dedicated many years of his life to the construction and roofing industries, successfully owning and operating his own business. His diligence and hard work earned him respect in his community, where he was known for his skill and reliability.
Throughout his life, James cherished moments spent traveling with his beloved wife, Marge Swain, to various destinations. Their adventures created lasting memories and nurtured friendships that spanned a lifetime. He was well-liked and made countless friends along his journeys, reflecting his approachable and caring nature.
James was a man filled with the patience of Job and a great sense of humor, often brightening the days of those around him with his mischievous grin. He found joy in tending to his garden and was known for his talent in entertaining friends and family within the warmth of his home. One of his proudest accomplishments was being an active member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and demonstrating his handiwork around the house, always eager to lend a helping hand.
James is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marge Swain of Port Neches, as well as his children: Eddy Swain and his wife, Gina of Nederland; Dean Swain and his wife, Megan of Crystal Beach; Keith Swain and his wife, Nancy of Michigan; Brandon Swain and his wife, Robin of Lumberton; Michael Swain and his wife, Melody of Beaumont; Candace Hunt and her husband, David of McKinney; and John Swain and his wife, Sharon of Fort Worth. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Jerome Borden and his wife, Nelly; Donna Bronson; and William Borden. James took great pride in his large and loving family, leaving behind 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy. He is also survived by his beloved sister Nancy Ayres of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.W. Swain and Beulah Swain, and his first wife, Patricia Swain, who was the mother of his children.
Visitation for James will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
James Edward Swain, Sr. will be remembered not only for his contributions to his community and family but also for the love and light he brought into the lives of all who knew him. His spirit and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
