James Carson Dykes, Sr., a cherished member of the community, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 86. Born on July 12, 1939, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, he lived a life that exemplified dedication, love, and craftsmanship.
James served honorably in the United States Navy, a testament to his character and commitment to service. After his military career, he became a skilled machinist, retiring from Huntsman Petrochemical, where his hands-on work was not only a career but a passion. He took great pride in helping others fix things, often embodying the spirit of generosity with his time and talents.
A proud and faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, James loved his family and his church family deeply. He regularly participated in church activities and enjoyed being involved in the community. His nurturing nature was mirrored in his hobbies, as he found joy in woodworking, creating beautiful pieces and sharing this skill with those around him.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lanora Anita Dykes of Port Neches; a son, Jim Dykes, Jr. and his wife, Rachel, also of Port Neches; a daughter, Dena Perkins and her husband, Virgil of Nederland; grandchildren, Brant Dykes and his wife, Payton of Orangefield, Blaire Lewis and her husband, Holden of Nederland, Bailey Dykes and her Fiance', Rayce Romero of Elgin, Texas., Christopher Gentry of Groves, and Adam Gentry and his wife, Madeline of Port Neches; and great-grandchildren, Colbie, Camden, Bekym, and Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maxine Rosalee, who undoubtedly instilled in him, the values that defined his life.
A visitation honoring James’ memory will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a home going service at 11:00am, both taking place at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, located at 10169 Memorial Blvd., Port Arthur, Texas. James will be laid to rest at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas, following his service.
James Carson Dykes, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and an unwavering spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
