James Edward Broussard

      James Edward Broussard, born on August 17, 1939, in Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on March 3, 2024, at Arboretum Nursing and Rehabilitation of Winnie. He was a dedicated individual who left a lasting impact throughout his life journey.
 
       James's career was marked by hard work and commitment. Starting as a plumber's helper after high school, he later transitioned to becoming a shipfitter at various shipyards in Texas until his well-deserved retirement. Following over thirty-two years in the shipyard industry, he embraced the role of a security officer at multiple locations, where his diligence shone brightly.
 
       Outside of work, James found joy in various activities. He had a passion for dancing and cherished moments of camping and traveling alongside his beloved wife in their motor home. His fun-loving personality endeared him to many, leaving behind cherished memories with all who knew him.
 
        Among his proudest accomplishments was his dedication to coaching girls' softball with his wife. Together, they imparted valuable lessons and created memorable experiences for the young athletes they mentored.
 
       James was preceded in death by his parents, J. Cleveland Broussard and Verna Marie (Lege) Broussard; grandparents, Giles and Ada Broussard; brothers, Ray Patrick Miguez, Roy Patirck Miguez, Cleveland J. Broussard; Terry Broussard, John Carl Broussard; sister, Florence Broussard; son-in-law, Joe Sassine; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hebert and Roland Stansbury; and sister-in-law, Velma Ducharme and husband Harold.
 
       James is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six and a half years, Barbara A. Broussard; his children, Darrell Broussard and wife Kim of Nederland;  Melissa Bearden of Port Arthur; Janice Sassine of Nederland; Giles Broussard and wife Renee of Groves; and Jennifer Berwick and husband Jerry of Groves. His presence will also be missed by his grandchildren, Amber S. Villarreal and husband Rene; James P. Broussard, Carol Meaux and husband Charles; Nicholas Broussard, Brandon Broussard, Devin Berwick and wife Lindsey; Kelli Hartman and husband Kody; Brittany Doucette and husband Adam; Ashley Justice and husband Justin; Dylan Berwick and wife Blair; Blake Broussard and wife, Ashley; and Joni Sassine; 25 great-grandchildren (including one expecting), siblings, Alvin Broussard of Maurice, Louisiana; Brenda Olivier of Carencro, Louisiana; Olita Pomier of Delcambre, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Virgil H. Hebert; sister-in-law, Mona Stansbury; as well as several of nieces and nephews.
 
       In remembrance of James Edward Broussard's remarkable life may we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of hard work, love for family and friends, and a genuine passion for coaching and mentoring. May his memory live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
 
       A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a Celebration of James' Life to begin at 2:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston in Nederland; 1605 Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
