It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Herschel Dan Damuth, who departed this world on October 6, 2024, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 81. Born on August 21, 1943, in Houston, Texas, he lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Herschel was a man of many passions. He relished the joy of travel, savoring adventures such as cruising to Alaska, where the breathtaking vistas and serene waters captivated his spirit. An avid fisherman, Herschel found peace in nature, often spending his time in the great outdoors, whether it was casting a line or pursuing deer. He had an enduring love for animals, often finding comfort and companionship in their presence, alongside the love of his family.
Herschel was honored to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He proudly served in the Navy from 1967-1971.
Herschel is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Damuth, of Groves, Texas. He was a proud father to two daughters, Heather Crowell and Lisa Estepp, who is married to Shane Estepp, both residing in Groves and Orange, respectively. Herschel's legacy continues through his five adoring grandchildren: Brittni Reyes and her husband, Jose; Brady Crowell; Ashlynn Woods and her husband, Chris; Brooklyn Simon and her fiancé, Davon Sea; and Jocelyn Sherfy. His family also includes cherished sisters, Helen Younts and Darlene Taylor, along with her husband, Philip; and his brother, Bill Damuth, and his wife, Janet.
Herschel leaves behind not just family, but also a loyal companion in Cooper Dan aka Coopman, who was his faithful sidekick throughout many of life's adventures. He will be profoundly missed by all who shared in his life’s journey; his warmth, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A graveside service to honor Herschel’s life will be held on October 10, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas, starting at 1:00 PM.
As we remember Herschel Dan Damuth, let us hold close the joy he brought into our lives and the love he generously shared.
