Gloria Marie Ballard Ledger passed away at the age of 83. She was born to Bertha Saucier & Samuel H. Ballard on August 5, 1926 in Port Arthur, TX. She attended school at St. Marys Catholic School. She graduated high school then attended Port Arthur College. She worked at the First National Bank where she made many friends who are still her friends today. Gloria married John R. Ledger on April 14, 1946. They lived in Port Arthur for most of their married life while they raised their daughters. Gloria spent her days sewing for the daughters as well as cooking, cleaning, and volunteering at St. Catherines Catholic School after Connie and Chris began attending school there. While the family did much camping together, once the girls were grown and on their own, Gloria and John really got into the camping thing. They spent a couple of summers working at resort campgrounds out of state and met lots of new friends. When the grandchildren came along, they were included in as many camping trips as time would allow. For the past 8 years, Gloria and John have been residing near San Antonio with their daughter Christine. This provided them the opportunity to get to know their first great grandchild, Chance Michel. Chance calls Gloria his Darlin. They have a very special bond. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 with Monsignor Dan Malain of St. Charles Catholic Church officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 12:00 noon until service time at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband John, an infant daughter, Charlotte Lorraine, her parents Bertha and Sam Ballard, Aunt and Uncle Aline and John DeVillier, and a cousin, Mary DeVillier Wells. Gloria is survived by her daughters Cynthia Castille and husband Merrick, Connie Chaplin and husband Jerry, Christine Ledger, and Penny Tuttle. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Bryan Castille and wife Lisa, Amber Colwell and husband Scott, Brittany Wilson and husband Jeff and 6 great grandchildren, Chance, Aubriana, and Cadence Colwell, Madelaine, Ashlaine, and Kimberlaine Wilson. We all say Good-Bye Mom and Godspeed. Dad is waiting for you at Heavens door. We will always love you. Your family

Gloria was the "older sister" to my siblings and me. We thank God for her presence in our lives, and we remember her for many acts of kindness towards our parents and us.

Just know love is surrounding your family as you are feeling the loss of your mother. Your memories will be there to cherish as you are reminded of her love and devotion, as well as the example of the love she shared with your dad. She has had the best loving care and you will be grateful for every laugh, hug, kiss, and tear shed that was shared with her. May God give you peace for this journey and blessed comfort for your times of grief. Most of all, may you always know you are loved and you have loved and cherished... with love in Christ, Sharon and Amanda
