George Lynn Hawkins, Jr. passed away December 2, 2013. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (2425 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas), Thursday, December 5, 2013. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:30 p.m., with the memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
George was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 4, 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aline Beck Hawkins and George Lynn Hawkins. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Collice Greer Hawkins, and their three children, his son, Dan Hawkins and partner T.J. Bath of Galveston, Texas, daughter, Katie Roth and husband C.E. of Nederland, Texas, and his youngest son, Brad Hawkins and wife, Jaclyn of La Vernia, Texas. George also had three grandchildren, Jeff Cutrer, Meagan Hawkins, and Brooke Hawkins.
George graduated from Lamar Tech, Beaumont, Texas. He served as Staff Sgt. In the U.S. Marine Corps.
George was a teacher, coach and Athletic Trainer at Beaumont High School, Nederland High School, and Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson High School from 1958 to 1992 when he retired. He sold pharmaceuticals from 1962 to 1968. George was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, a 50 plus year 32 degree Masonic Lodge member, a Scottish Rite member and an El Mina Shriner. George was inducted into the Southeast Texas Coaches Association’s Hall of Honor in 1998. He was selected by his peers to be the Texas High School Coaches Association’s 1975 All-Star Trainer. George was an active member in the Mid-County Noon Optimist Club. George loved any type of competition. He especially loved playing fast-pitch softball, tennis, golf and track and field. But most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends.
