Floyd W. Marceaux, 83, of Port Arthur, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023, at home.  

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at St. Catherine Catholic Church 3706 Woodrow Drive, Port Arthur, Tx 77642. Officiating will be Reverend Tino Barrera. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. 

 

Visitation will be at 5:00p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m., in the Melancon-Levingston Chapel in Groves, leading the rosary will be Deacon Keith Fontenot. 

 

Born in Kaplan, Louisiana, on January 1, 1940, he was the son of Sidney Joseph Marceaux, Sr. and Lydie Rose Boudion. On May 9, 1959, he married the love of his life, Ann Benoit, and the two of them began a life of dedicated service. Floyd moved to Port Arthur at an early age and attended Port Arthur Public and Parochial Schools. He later graduated from Bishop Byrne High School before pursuing further education. In 1962, Floyd graduated from the National Credit Office in New York City, which laid the foundation for his successful career. Additionally, he graduated with his diploma from the Southwest Management Institute at the University of Texas Austin in 1965, further emphasizing his commitment to personal and professional growth. Following his education, Floyd embarked on a fruitful career as the President and CEO of the Retail Merchants Association since 1962. His dedication and expertise earned him widespread recognition throughout his tenure. In 1976, Floyd received the Associated Credit Bureaus International Leadership Award for his exceptional leadership skills. Furthermore, he served as President of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Texas in 1981 and was a board member for four years. From 1972 to 1976, he was also a valued board member of the Associated Credit Bureaus International. While Floyd's success in his career was remarkable, his impact extended far beyond professional achievements. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged—an experience that shaped his character and instilled values of discipline and commitment. Floyd's proudest accomplishments center around his active involvement in various charitable organizations within his community. His dedication to service began with decades-long membership at Rotary Club of Port Arthur since 1968, during which he achieved an impressive streak of perfect attendance spanning over an astonishing 37 years, as well as serving as President in 1975. Furthermore, Floyd served as the President of United Way of Port Arthur in 1995 after being a board member for six years. In 1996, he assumed the role of the Board Chairman of Goodwill Industries of Southeast Texas, contributing his expertise and guidance for another six years. His involvement in shaping his community continued as a member of the Board of Trustees for Port Arthur Higher Education at Lamar State College. Floyd dedicated 20 years to this vital institution, contributing his knowledge and insight. He also served as the Board Chairman of the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce in 1994 and was an active board member from 1991 to 1994. Floyd's deep faith led him to serve as a member of the St. Catherine Church Parish Council, where he was also a past President. Moreover, he played a pivotal role in founding various community events that became cherished traditions. In 1986, Floyd was the founder of the Port Arthur Rotary Club Taste of Gumbo—an event that celebrated local culinary talent and camaraderie. He also served on the Founding Committee for Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce Shrimpfest in 1989.  Recognized for his remarkable contributions, Floyd has been a member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council in Groves since 1990. He was also appointed as a board member of the Port Arthur Housing Finance Corp from 1997 to 2001. Furthermore, he co-founded Mardi Gras Southeast Texas in 1992, serving as President until 2012 and becoming Treasurer in 2015. His commitment to community extended to supporting healthcare institutions through his position on the Board of Trustees for St Mary Hospital Foundation from 1994 to 1999. Additionally, he served as an Advisory Board member for Diocese of Beaumont Financial Council from 1997 to 2001. Floyd's influence on his community continued to grow as he assumed various leadership positions throughout the years. He became the Chairman of Port Arthur Main Street Board in 1998 and remained actively involved in its endeavors. He also played a meaningful role in the development of Port Arthur Centennial Commission in 1997, highlighting his dedication to commemorating the city's history. Floyd was also the Chairman of the Rotary Club of Port Arthur’s International Avenue of Flags, a centennial project which was a joint effort with Jefferson County, Port Arthur EDC, Port of Port Arthur, and the City of Port Arthur. In recognition of his tireless efforts and exemplary contributions, Floyd was honored with prestigious awards. He was inducted into the Rotary District 5910 Roll of Fame in 2001 and was awarded the Sertoma Club “Service to Mankind Award” in 2003. In 2014, he received the Arthur E. Stilwell Award from the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce as a testament to his outstanding accomplishments. Floyd Marceaux's commitment to service and his dedication to improving the lives of others leaves an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to become actively involved in their communities, contributing to the betterment of society. 

 

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Ann Marceaux; parents, Lydie and Sidney Marceaux, Sr.; brothers and sister, Rev. Sidney Joseph Marceaux, Jr., Gerald Paul Marceaux, Jo Ann Broom; and nieces, Angela Broom Amoroso, Sarah White Abernathy and Christie Tremonte.

 

He is survived by his brother and sister, John F. Marceaux, Elizabeth Judy Marceaux; nieces and nephews, Gayla Bly, Kathryn Broom, Rebecca Valois, Jessica Marceaux Thibodaux, Michael Marceaux, Jeremy Mills; great-nieces and nephews, Meagan Cotten, Briana and Anthony Valois, Lydia Broom, Shera Marceaux, Makayla, Aliyah and Adam Thibodaux, Kinlee and Jaden Mills, Cynthia and husband, Richard White, Charlotte and husband, John Greer, Colleen Tremonte and Donald Lloyd, Catherine and husband, Frank Genuardi, Connie and husband, Robert Meves, Caren Bodin, Clare and husband, Guy Bodin;  Alicia White, Jennifer White Young, Christopher Genuardi, Elizabeth Genuardi, Johnathan Greer, Megan Greer, Matthew Bodin, Andrew Bodin, Zachary Meves and Jacob Meves.
