Dorothy M. Bruce

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Bruce, who departed this life on September 4, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas Born on March 15, 1932, in Morse, Louisiana. She resided in Port Neches for 52 years and has been a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Dorothy lived a life filled with joy and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Dorothy found joy in her many passions. Her artistic spirit shone through her beautiful painting, intricate floral designs as owner of Nancy’s Flower Shop for 10+ years as well as knotted rosaries. She also loved the camaraderie of bowling, the challenge of video games and rummikub (the little game), and the comfort of sharing her cherished recipes, which brought warmth and flavor to countless gatherings. As she got older watching her grandkids grow and flourish through the years gave her immense joy. Her favorite titles included Grandma, MawMaw and little MawMaw. She also enjoyed sharing jokes at family gatherings. She always said raising her kids was her biggest accomplishment.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her family. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Bruce and his wife, Janis of Tempe, Arizona, and Howard Bruce and his wife, Leslie of Dripping Springs, Texas; her daughters, Carolyn Martin and her husband, Arthur of Port Neches, and Sandy Ferrell and the late James M. Ferrell Jr. of Port Neches. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Gina Bruce, Joseph Bruce and his wife, Jessica, Matthew Martin, Christopher Martin and his wife, Christine, Courtney Hawkins and Husband Holton, Veronica Bruce, Steven Ferrell and his wife, Mandy, Ryan Ferrell and his fiance Anne, Jamie Ferrell Hammond and her husband, Parker. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Ryan Ferrell, Jr., Lily and Baker Hammond, Harper Hawkins, Wesley and Preston Bruce, and Janelle Sneed. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, Ray Hargrave of Rayne Louisiana, and her sister, Rita Benoit of Jasper as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Erris and Therese Hargrave, and her devoted husband, Bobby James Bruce, with whom she now rests. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who loved her.

Dorothy will be remembered with a visitation on September 9, 2026, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 11:00 a.m. at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home with a graveside service to be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
