Donney Ray Oberg, known lovingly as Don, passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 80. He was born on October 3, 1943, in Rye, Texas. Don's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his beloved family and friends, but his memory will forever be cherished.
Don dedicated an incredible 50 years of his life to Market Basket, where he served as a manager. His commitment and hard work were greatly appreciated by his colleagues and customers alike. Don's dedication to his career is a testament to his strong work ethic and loyalty.
Outside of work, Don had a passion for supporting the Dallas Cowboys. As an avid fan, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. Don's enthusiasm for football brought joy and excitement to those around him during game days.
In addition to his successful career and love for football, Don cherished the time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband to Paula Haynes Oberg for 33 years until her passing. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. The loss of Paula has undoubtedly been a great sorrow in Don's life.
Don later met his wife, Sue Oberg, who he was married to for 25 years. Together they built a life focused on love devotion towards one another, God, and family. Their favorite ways to spend time were going to church, running around to their grandchildren's events, helping with the Lion's Club and watching the Cowboys and Astros together.
Don is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Oberg of Groves, Texas, his children, Felicia Wright and husband Tim of Winchester, Tennessee; Kevin Oberg and wife Rebecca of Nederland, Texas; Donna Wyble and husband John of Port Neches, Texas; stepchildren, Jill Sciarrilla and husband Ronnie; Michael Hoelzer and wife Natalie. Don also leaves behind his grandchildren Jacob Wright and wife Stephanie, Justin Wright and wife Joanna, Megan Wright, Kristan Battistoni and her husband Ryan, Michelle Henderson and husband Evan, Alexandra Wyble, Zachary Wyble, Colby-Jay Sciarrilla and wife Kelli, Nyah Sciarrilla, Bailee Hayden and husband Peter, Caleb Hoelzer, Avreigh Fay Hoelzer, Hunter Battistoni, Audrey Battistoni, Finely Battistoni, Luke Battistoni, Theodore Wright, Astro Ray Wright, Annalise Freeman, Ilana Freeman, and Xander Sciarrilla. Moreover, the family is expecting the arrival of a new precious great-grandchild soon.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Willie (Snell) Oberg; father, Raymond Clyde Oberg Sr.; brother, Raymond Clyde Oberg Jr.; and his beloved wife, Paula Haynes Oberg.
To honor Don's life and pay respects, visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Concord Cemetery, 5958 Co Rd 2132, Cleveland, Texas 77327.
Serving as pallbearers include Tim Wright, Jacob Wright, Zachary Wyble, Ronnie Sciarrilla, David Haynes, Jr., and Tim Haynes.
Donney Ray Oberg will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. His warm smile and kind-hearted nature left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
