David Lynn Berg, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas. Born on November 2, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas, led a life characterized by love, service, and dedication to his family and faith.
David was a proud veteran, having served honorably in both the US Army and the Navy. His commitment to service continued as he embarked on a career with the US Postal Service, where he utilized his skills as a mechanic, contributing to the community that he held dear.
As a devoted parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, David found solace and strength in his faith. He loved his family with boundless affection and took joy in the simple pleasures life offered. Ice cream every night was a delightful ritual, as was spending time in the great outdoors, whether fishing by the water or engaging in word searches, which brought him much peace and enjoyment. He had his own unique language which was sometimes difficult to understand (although his curse words were always crystal clear) and enjoyed telling stories and spending time with family and friends.
His family was his pride and joy, and he is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Irene Berg of Port Arthur, and their cherished children: daughter, Rhonda Mahaffey and her husband, Brandon of Beaumont, and son, David Berg, II and his wife, Kristina of Port Arthur. David's legacy lives on through his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness: Craig Tahaney and his husband, Chance, Brett Bounds and his wife, Meagan, Ashlin Tahaney and her wife, Caitlin, David Berg, III and wife, Natasha, Taylor Berg, and Anthony Berg. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Kaydence Bounds and Elise Bounds, as well as sisters, Ann and Janie, and long time friend, Rick Welburn. He also leaves behind his fur-pup, Hallie, who was a source of comfort and companionship.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Berg and Hallie Vick; his twin sister, Donna McClelland; his sisters, Peggy Love and Catherine; and son-in-law, Craig Tahaney.
While David will be deeply missed, his spirit and the warmth of his love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. Friends and family are invited to honor his memory, with visitation to begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 5:30 p.m. and the visitation to continue until 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2025 at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland, Texas.
As we remember David, we recall not only a life well-lived but also the profound impact he had on all who knew him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of the Lord and in the company of those who have gone before him.
