Clyde Earnest Peters

Clyde Peters, a devoted husband, loving father, and respected member of his community has passed away at the age of 87 in San Antonio, Texas. Clyde was born on October 17, 1936, in Kingsport, Tennessee. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
 
Clyde dedicated 26 years of his life to the Army, serving in various locations including El Paso, Texas, Bamburg, Germany, and Port Arthur, Texas. During his military career, he served as a local Army recruiter in Port Arthur for 12 years. His commitment to his country during the difficult Vietnam era was unwavering and his contributions were greatly admired by many. During his tenure in Port Arthur, Clyde earned top area recruiter and leadership awards including National recognition and being invited to Super Bowl 8 at Rice stadium in 1974.
 
In his civilian life, Clyde excelled as a State Chemical Sales representative for 17 years. His professionalism and leadership made him a trusted figure within the industry. Beyond his career, Clyde found joy in fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was a proud member of the Spindletop Bass Club and Port Arthur Bass Club for many years. Additionally, he served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Port Arthur.  He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and devotion that will never be forgotten.

 Clyde was also a talented gardener and baker.  He became known for his “Pepper Relish” which he gave away to fortunate donors of his Rely for Life cancer campaign.
 
Clyde is survived by his son, Edsel Peters of San Antonio, Texas, son, Ernie Peters and wife, Jenny of Beaumont, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Joann Jackson Peters, Tyler, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeffrey Peters, Jason Peters and wife, Kristy,  Kelly Bustos and husband, Miguel, Skyler Peters and wife, Chrisie, Clara Eakin and husband, Dillon, Elliot Peters, Katie Sue Peters; and his great-grandchildren, Scarlet Eakin, Nova Eakin, Meredith Peters, Graham Peters; Benjamin Bustos, and Ally Jo Peters, his sister, Margaret Pendelton and husband, J.C., of Gate City, Virginia; along with lifelong friend, Charles Petrovich of Groves, Texas, who was like a brother to him.
 
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sue Peters, his son, Michael Peters, sister, Barbara Barnett, and Parents, Ernest and Mary Peters.
 
Services to remember Clyde will be held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves on May 2nd with visitation starting at 6:00  to 8:00 PM.   He will be honored at a Graveside Service on May 3rd at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches starting at 11:00 AM.
