It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Landry Cormier on May 10, 2025, in Groves, Texas. Born on August 6, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas, Cheryl’s vibrant spirit and loving heart touched the lives of many throughout her journey.
Cheryl worked in medical records for Park Place Hospital and then Doctor’s Hospital. Later, she became a dedicated insurance agent, working diligently at Farmers Insurance at Megas Insurance Agency. Her career was marked not just by her professional expertise but also by her effervescent personality, which drew people to her. A 1975 graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School, she remained an active member of her community and her parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and teaching CCD at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for many years. As a devoted parishioner, she found strength in her faith and shared that devotion with those around her.
Cheryl was known for her love of life, embodied in her passions and interests. A proud Mary Kay Consultant, she enjoyed the artistry of makeup and loved to dress up with flair, showcasing her lively spirit. Renowned for her hard work, she complemented her diligence with an abundance of sass. Whether dancing to her favorite tunes or entertaining guest in her home, she exuded warmth and joy that resonated with family and friends alike. Her fondness for all genres of music and her skillful ability to jitterbug encapsulated her zest for life.
Among her proudest accomplishments was the joy she found in gathering her family for big Cajun meals. Cheryl cherished these moments deeply, often enjoying evenings spent on her front porch and back patio surrounded by great laughter and love.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and remembrance. Her cherished family includes her daughter, Laura Arvizo and her husband, Paul of Mauriceville; her son, David Poss and his wife, Heather of Groves; her beloved grandchildren, Dail Mayfield and his wife, Carley, Cameron Mayfield, Gabriella Arvizo, Payton Poss, Lillian Poss, Sebastian Johnson and his wife, Akela, Johnathan Tarver and his wife, Rebecca, and Ashlyn Cormier; as well as her precious great-grandchildren, Jeter Mayfield, Drue Mayfield, Cole Johnson, Wyatt Vincent, Jasmine Jones, Johnathan Tarver Jr., Carolina Tarver, and Violet Brown. Also surviving are her sister, Debbie O'Neill and her husband, Rick of Granbury; and brothers, Gordon Landry and his wife, Becky of Port Arthur, and Jude Landry and his wife, Kristi of Orange. She is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Joseph Landry and Claudia Mary Dugas Landry, and her husband of 41 years, John E. “Johnny” Cormier. The memories will forever resonate in the stories shared by those who knew and loved her.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life during visitation on May 14, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with a Rosary at 10:30 AM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 2001 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas. A Funeral Mass will commence at 11:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2006 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas, then a graveside service will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, concluding the day of celebrating her remarkable life and legacy.
Cheryl Landry Cormier will be deeply missed but her impact and infectious spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
