Catherine Mary Hardin, 72, of Port Arthur, Texas, entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2025.
Born on May 22, 1953, Cathy lived a life defined by unshakable faith, boundless love, and quiet strength. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil Robert Hardin; her daughter, Cori Hardin; her siblings Rick Bertrand and Deborah Bertrand; and her parents Ernest and Theresa Lake.
Cathy was a devoted wife and a selfless mother who poured her heart into raising her daughters, Candace, Cori and Cara . Her greatest joy came from being Nana to her cherished grandchildren: Corey, Antonia, Aundrea, and Nathaniel.
For decades, Cathy was a familiar and beloved face at Alford’s Grocery Store in Port Acres and later at numerous Market Basket stores in Jefferson County. Her hard work and warm spirit earned her the affectionate title of “Mom” from some and friend from countless others who became family in her care. She opened her heart to many, offering guidance and love when those she knew needed it most.
Through profound losses and life’s hardest trials, Cathy faced every challenge with remarkable courage and biblical hope that never wavered. Her faith in Jesus Christ sustained her, and her radiant joy—even in sorrow—inspired everyone around her. She taught those she loved that happiness is found in the presence of family and friends, in shared laughter, and in the promise of reunion on the other side of eternity.
Cathy is survived by her daughters, Candace Sessums (Danny) and Cara Valma; her grandchildren, Corey, Antonia, Aundrea, and Nathaniel Valma; her siblings, Sharon Kasper (Mike), Jeff Lake (Sara), and Christina Bergeron (Charles); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and the countless friends and “adopted children” whose lives she touched. She was, for so many of us, the wind beneath our wings.
She will be missed every single day until we see her again in the arms of her Savior and the embrace of those who went before her.
Cathy will be remembered with a visitation on Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Harbor Hospice.
