Monell Wallace

Groves, Texas

Bettie Monell Wallace, 92, of Longview, TX, formerly a longtime resident of Groves, TX passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024. She was born on August 12, 1932 in Caseyville, a community near Brookhaven, MS the place that remained dear to her heart throughout her life. Monell worked diligently as a cafeteria worker at Port Neches Groves ISD for 10 years and several years as a seamstress in a factory in Lincoln County, MS.


Monell married the love of her life, R.R. Wallace in 1950. They shared 48 years of marriage until his death in August of 1998. She was a devoted wife, caring for her husband tirelessly and faithfully the last 15 years of his life.


She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church in Groves, TX, formerly Friendship Baptist. Monell was deeply involved in her church community. Her faith and dedication to the Lord were evident in all aspects of her life. Monell's love for her family and her church family was unmatched.


She is survived by her sons, Gary Wallace and his wife Carla of Corpus Christi, TX, and Danny Wallace and his wife Kristi of Kilgore, TX; grandsons Jacob Wallace (Megan), Caleb Wallace (Alyssa), James Wallace (Monique), and Clint Wallace (Sarah); granddaughter Hannah Sturgeon (Josh); and great-grandchildren Dallas Towle, McCaila Wallace, Kade Wallace, Ben Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Kylie Wallace, Kenna Wallace, and Eden Wallace. Monell also leaves behind her brother, Dean Allgood of Tyler, TX.


She was preceded in death by her parents, William Louie Allgood and Fannie Mae Smith Allgood; her husband, R.R. Wallace; and her brother, Morris Allgood. 


Her hobbies included baking, sewing, gardening, traveling with family, and watching sports, bringing joy and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She will be dearly missed but we know she is in her heavenly home.


A graveside service will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, TX on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11 AM. Officiating the service will be Dr. Phil Sigman. A visitation / reception will be held immediately following the graveside service at Grace Baptist Church in Groves. Memorial donations in Monell's memory can be made to Grace Baptist Church at 3417 Berry Ave, Groves, TX, or Buckner Westminster Place at 2201 Horseshoe Lane, Longview, TX 75605, honoring her commitment to her faith, family and community.
