Bette Sue Angelle

January 1, 1944 — May 20, 2025

Beaumont, Texas

Bette Sue Angelle, a beloved teacher and dedicated family member, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Lumberton, Texas at the age of 81. Born on January 1, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas, Sue lived a life full of love, laughter, and learning, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

For 30 years, she served as a devoted educator at Nederland Independent School District, where she inspired countless students to pursue their dreams. Sue earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Lamar University. Her passion for teaching was matched only by her enthusiasm for cooking, a craft she cherished deeply. Sue was particularly fond of culinary adventures, whether it involved planning intricate menus or watching her favorite cooking shows. If there was a meal to be prepared, she was all-in, often bringing friends and family together around the table to share in her delicious creations.

Sue's unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a proud member of the Catholic Church. This spiritual guidance undoubtedly influenced her nurturing spirit, which was evident in her love for her family. She treasured the time spent with her husband of 60 years, Lowell David Angelle of Beaumont, her daughters Rachel Linthicum and her husband Gary, and Carmen Jordan and her partner, Donni Leaycraft. Sue also shared a special bond with her brothers, John James of Sugarland and Glen James of Sulphur, Louisiana.

As a grandmother, Sue delighted in her role, showering her grandchildren with affection and wisdom. Travis Linthicum and his wife Bonnie, Kelsey Dunmire, Shannon Aguirre and her husband Carlos, and Kendall Jordan were all recipients of her love and mentorship. Even more, she rejoiced in the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Max, Annie, and Camille, always eager to nurture and celebrate their milestones.

Sue's proudest accomplishments were often found in the joy she brought to others. Renowned as the best hostess, she relished hosting events that brought friends and family together, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie that will be fondly remembered by those fortunate enough to attend.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dennis and Louine James, and her sister, Genie Crawford, who surely welcomed her with open arms.

The family invites all to celebrate Sue’s remarkable life. A visitation will be held on May 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627.

Bette Sue Angelle will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she loved and inspired.
