Austin Picou, a beloved son, husband, brother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Spurger, Texas, at the tender age of 22. Born on August 20, 2002, in Nederland, Texas, Austin was a beacon of joy and inspiration, lighting the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Austin was known for his unwavering spirit and infectious enthusiasm for life. A proud graduate of home school in 2019, he demonstrated ambition and intelligence from an early age, earning the respect and admiration of those around him. Never one to meet a stranger, he cultivated friendships effortlessly and was cherished by many for his steadfast nature and kindness. Austin was an accomplished role model for his siblings, showcasing the importance of hard work and determination in all his endeavors.
In April of 2021, Austin celebrated one of his proudest accomplishments: marrying the love of his life, Mariah Picou. This union brought immense happiness to both families, as they shared in the joyous journey of marriage filled with dreams and aspirations.
Austin's passions included a love for the outdoors, where he thrived in pursuits such as fishing, baseball, and hunting. His adventures began at a young age, starting to hunt at the tender age of five or six. He also had a particular affinity for working with horses and woodworking, showcasing his creativity through the crafting of whips and engaging in masonry work. These hobbies provided him with immense joy and shaped lasting memories with family and friends. Austin started his company, Thermal Crew, as an extension of his love for outdoor activities and hunting.
Austin is survived by his devoted wife, Mariah Picou of Spurger; his loving parents, Richard and Sarah Picou of Port Acres; his caring in-laws, Michelle and Marion Marasciullo; his cherished grandparents, Patricia and J.D. "Boco" Picou and Donna Choate Westphal and her husband, Paul; his sister, Haleigh Picou Long (Tyler) of Anahuac; his brothers, Jacob Picou and Mathew Picou; and his aunts and uncles, Jason Picou (Tiffany), Dan Picou (Natalie), Cathy Broussard (JoJo), and Tania Chambers (Jason). Additionally, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jerromy Chance, Andrew Marasciullo, Anaiah Marasciullo, Emari Marasciullo, Marowynn Marasciullo, Eowyn Marasciullo, Avenlea Marasciullo, Ivory Marasciullo, and Cypress Marasciullo, along with a host of cousins and extended family and friends who adored him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Max Frieling, Jr., whose guidance and love were instrumental in shaping the man Austin became.
A gathering of Austin's family and friends will be held at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Nederland.
Austin Picou's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His ambition, kindness, and passion for life will continue to inspire all to embrace the beauty of the world around them and to cherish the moments spent with loved ones.
