Allan Ray "Pop" Mitchell

Allan Ray Mitchell, 64, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at his residence in Nederland with his loving family at his side.  

Allan was born on June 30, 1959, in Port Arthur, Texas to Anna Earl Wise Mitchell and Harren W. Mitchell.  He was a retired Market Manager at Bruce’s Market Basket in Groves.  He worked for the Market Basket Company for twenty-three years and previously worked at H.E.B. in Lumberton for many years.  Allan was a member of First Baptist Church in Nederland.  Allan enjoyed working and was devoted to his store, staff and customers as he treated everyone with respect.  He raised chickens at his home which his grandchildren loved to chase around.  He also enjoyed spending time with his dog “Bear”.  Allan enjoyed watching “Westerns” on TV such as the Rifleman and other movies and shows.  Most of all, Allan loved his family; especially his grandkids who referred to him as “Pop”; he loved to spoil them and they adored him.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him; but he will never be forgotten. 

Survivors include his wife of twenty-four years, Michelle Martin Mitchell of Nederland; children, Brandy Nicole Voight and her husband, Mason of Groves and Alan Michael Mitchell of Nederland; grandchildren, AnnMarie Voight and Mitchell Voight; his father, Harren W. Mitchell of Nederland; his sister, Ramona Hargrave and her husband Joey of Bridge City; his brother, Kent Mitchell and wife Kim of Nederland; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s; other family members who loved him dearly.  

Allan was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Earl Mitchell, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Lilly Martin; two brother-in-law’s, Tony Martin and Greg Martin.

A gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 23, 2024, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland.  Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Nederland with Entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Alan Michael Mitchell, Mason Voight, Mitchell Voight, Kent Mitchell, Joey Hargrave, Toby Battaglia and Gabby Pea.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Art Belaire, Ronnie Beach and Troy Bradford.

His immediate family would like to offer a special thank you to Taylor Martin and Gabby Pea, for their wonderful care and devotion to “Pop”.

They would also like to thank his hospice team at Hospice Care Team, especially his nurse Joey Richard.
